Peridot emerged on the Nigerian fashion scene in 2006, specializing in premium bespoke designs. Inspired by structural shapes and dynamic prints, creative director Lola Ashafa infuses the brand with a unique flair for feminine sensibility. Blending classic with contemporary, she creates minimalist, feminine pieces for today’s women. Ashafa’s versatile pieces reflect the intricacies of modern life, and can easily transition from day to night, season to season. The brand’s unique point of view is getting attention, with appearances in lifestyle magazines and growing popularity among stylists, influencers, and celebrities.
In 2009, Peridot launched its sister company, a bridal wear line called Something Peridot. Ashafa’s entrance into the bridal and evening wear scene happened organically when in 2007, two of her closest friends asked her to design custom-made bridesmaids’ dresses for their weddings, and soon after, she dressed the bridesmaids at her own wedding. From these grassroots beginnings, Something Peridot has quickly become recognized as one of Nigeria’s go-to bridal fashion houses and is gaining international popularity for its timeless, exquisite gowns. Through this branch of design, Peridot aims to celebrate life’s memorable moments and the women who live them.
In 2019, Peridot officially opened its doors to customers with a flagship store in Lagos, Nigeria. The brand re-introduced its ready-to-wear and accessory line, which continues to redefine its focus on feminine, classic, yet modern pieces. In addition, the brand expanded its reach through several independent retailers. Peridot sets itself apart from fast fashion outlets by displaying modern yet classic and transitional pieces inside an uncrowded, clutter-free retail concept.
Peridot embodies a minimalist aesthetic, marked by exquisite fabrics, impeccable construction, and overall attention to detail. Rich colours, structural cuts, and gorgeous patterns are all streamlined into wearable, and affordable, contemporary designs.
